Reading Challenge ~ August Amendment

Reading Challenge 2012

My goal for reading this year was to read 52 books or more in 2012. That is one book a week. I am proud that I am doing so well. I am currently reading 10 books. Some are left from books I was reading to Christopher and he decided he likes reading them on his own better: George Washington: True Patriot, Martha Washington: America's First Lady, Evolution Exposed: Your Evolution Answer Book, The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Founding Fathers and With Wolfe in Canada. I want to get them finished up this month. For spiritual books I am reading How People Change /How People Change (Study Guide), Promises, Promises: Understanding and Encouraging Your Husband, and My Utmost For His Highest: Classic Edition. Just for myself for fun I am reading Lion of Babylon. I am reading Keeping House: The Litany of Everyday LifeI am excited about this reading challenge. I think I am going to exceed my goal. I was hoping I could get to 75 books but I don't know if that will happen. Well, I've gotta get going on my other goals and more reading too.
 I love reading!
You can explore so much of our past and present and gain so much knowledge and encouragement! Also, reading is and can be Fun!

Read A Book Today!

Each month for the Reading Challenge we are supposed to do an update and link up. This month I read....

The Pipe Organ (Tales from Grace Chapel Inn, #15) by Jane Orcutt
Another good book in the series... this one is not just about the organ but about community, friendship, and supporting one another.

Exploring the World Around You: A Look at Nature from Tropics to Tundra by Gary Parker
This is a good book for an introduction to ecology. Covering biomes and ecosystems, pollution and energy conservation with a Christian worldview. I found it very interesting and I even learned a few things. I like the emphasis on the creator and the fallen world we live in which causes many problems, as well as feeling like you get an honest look at pollution and problems like the ozone.

Prayers, Paws and Providence (Tales from Grace Chapel Inn, #16) by Diann Hunt
Another great story in the Grace Chapel Inn series. This book about community and reaching out to help others. Also about how God uses us in unexpected ways in other peoples lives and how he can even use animals to intervene in human lives, like Balaam and the donkey.

UnEmployed Faith by Rosann Cunningham
Loved this book. It is currently available only on Kindle. I found this book through I blog I regularly read. I am so thankful for it. My husband has been unemployed for 2 3/4 years now and this book was a real help to me. Some of the tips she gave I have already been doing, but they were great reminders. This is a Christian book. There are suggestions that ask you to read you Bible. If that is not your thing than you should look elsewhere for help. If you are a Christian, or don't mind books with a Christian worldview, and your husband is or was unemployed you should read this book. If you have a friend whose husband is unemployed you should buy this book for her. This book is not about how to get your husband a job, it is about dealing with the feelings and emotions of this trial and how to make it through with grace.

Lady of Light (Brides of Culdee Creek, Book 3) by Kathleen Morgan
This book is definitely for married women only or older ladies. I would not recommend this to unmarried young women because there are mature topics in this series. In spite of that I liked this book. It is a Christian book and even Christians have problems they have to deal with.

In this book the son of the owner of the Culdee Creek Ranch is running away from home and looking for his extended family in Scotland. What he finds in Scotland is love. He brings his new wife home to America. He met his wife and got married quickly and they have many hurdles to overcome in America. They deal with these things with the help of family, church leadership and God. This is a complex story with real life types of problems. They don't get solved overnight and there are repercussions from the past that must be dealt with. Those are some of the things I like about this series. It is not just a feel good Christian romance. The characters grow and seek God and solve real problems. That is encouraging to me.

That is 5 books for August. That makes 42/52 books for the year. I am 8 books ahead of schedule!

You are doing so well! I appreciate your faithful participation. Even if I don't always make it over to comment, I always read!

The one book you are reading about the litany of every day life, how is it? The title sounds intriguing.
