Earth Day, April 22, 2018


Earth Day is coming up on April 22. The theme for this year is End Plastic Pollution. You can check out things going on for Earth day and get some resources at https://www.earthday.org/

We are going to be doing a program at the library on Earth Day, April 22. I will be reading a story to the children, "The Adventures of a Plastic Bottle." I thought this would be appropriate for the theme this year. I can't wait to read it to the children.





Water Bottle Wind Spirals
This is a fun craft using reusing water bottles. I will cut off the bottoms of the bottles for the kids before the program and they will be used for the project below. The kids will color the water bottles with permanent markers and cut them with safety scissors. I already did a test one and the safety scissors will cut the bottles easily.  I still have to buy the permanent markers because we only have black and red at work.

Water Bottle Flowers Craft for Kids
I will have as many flowers available for the kids to make as I have spirals. How many flowers each child gets to make depends how many kids I get at my program. I cannot afford special paint, so I will be having the kids color the bottles with the permanent makers like in the project above. I also decided to use craft sticks that the kids can color with our washable markers instead of the straws, since we already have them. We will attach the sticks to the back of the flowers with low temp hot glue. The kids will have help with this part if they are young.





This Earth day craft is a very fun and simple way to teach kids about our planet using paper plates.
I am also doing this Paper Plate Earth Day Craft for Kids, for those who don't want to get permanent marker on their hands and for younger patrons.

I will be modifying this for our kids. I will use blue construction paper glued to a paper plate. Glue sticks, not paint with lots of kids expected at the library, will be much less messy. Then pieces of green tissue paper for the land then face, arms and legs as seen here.

I am not doing this one... Soda Bottle Zippered Pencil Case... but it does look fun and maybe some of my readers would like to try it. The sample looks like it is a 2 liter bottle but you could do any plastic bottle. Each would hold different kinds of "goodies." Maybe we will try it another time. The staff uses a lot of water (and other plastic) bottles and we can set up a box in the staff break room and collect some in a short time.

Christmas 2000 Digital Scrapbook pages

I used the  Digi Cyber Scraps kit Tis the Season.

I love Christmas and looking back at those happy days of the past is just as fun as celebrating the day.
My kids were so young and cute. My when you are going through the days when your kids are young you feel as if the days are long and the kids will never grow up. Now that they are it seems the days passed way to quickly. Ahhhh, sweet memories.

Doodle Picture for friends

May 16th some friends from Texas visited our home. They came to our area for a vacation, stayed in a home they rented for the time they were here. They visited Washington D.C., Philadelphia and the Lancaster, PA area. They saved one day to visit us. It was the first time I had met most of the family.

My daughters have been friends with the daughters of this family for a while. Their daughters visited us for two weeks in 2011, it was the first time we had met any of the family. They flew in... just to meet my daughters and spend time with us. It was their first time in an airplane.

In October 2012 my daughters flew to Texas to visit them, and another Texas friend. They were in Texas for 3 weeks.

We hope to some day, as a family, all get to Texas for a vacation. We would love to spend more time with our friends and visit some of the area.

I have been doing a doodle class. She revamped the class for 2013 and evidently added some things. Here is the link if you are interested... A Whole New Doodle 2013

I doodled a picture for the family and put it in a frame. I hope they enjoy it. I worked really hard on it.


Before I took the class I never drew anything. Now I enjoy doodling. I am hoping to take another class sometime. In the meantime I will doddle for myself, my family, and my friends.

Blogging through the Alphabet ~ Baby Boy

Blogging Through the Alphabet

From my title you probably expected to see pictures of a baby boy.
What you have instead is a picture of a cross stitch baby boy that I am stitching on a bib.
This gift is for my great nephew's coming son... he will be my first great-great nephew. 
Can't believe my sister will have a great grandson, she is way to young. The parents are young. 
My sister is going to be a great grandmother and I don't even have a married child yet.
Oh, well, not something I can control, all in God's time.
I am working on this a lot, I have to get this done so I can mail it to them.
I still have to do a bunny the little boy is holding, then take off the waste canvas and then do the back stitching.

History Planner Notebook

I wanted to do some scrapbooking today, but I did not get to it. I did however cover an binder.
A friend from church gave us a bunch of binders 
They were in good shape but not so pretty.
They had company logos on the cover.
I am always in need of new binders so I accepted them.

I was thinking I could cover them with wallpaper samples that my sister gave me.
I needed a new binder for my History Planner today.
The binder I had been using was falling apart.

First I went to the basement and found some wallpaper that reminded me of History.
Then I picked a plain matching piece. With this I covered the back of the binder and wrapped up onto part of the front.
Then I cut the paper that looked like something from History and put that on front.

This is what I ended up with and I am very, very happy with it.






Though this is not scrapbooking it is definitely creative and along with the composition book I covered yesterday makes for a "crafty" weekend after all.

Decorating My Food Diary

I want to start keeping better track of what I am eating. So I decided to cover a composition notebook so that my diary would be pretty. That is the project I worked on today. Here are pictures of the steps I took to cover the notebook.

I used a regular composition notebook, some wallpaper samples (from some sample books my sister gave me) and glue.


I picked the pattern I wanted to go on the back


 it also wraps around to the front


it folds over and is glued down to the inside of the book making neat corners

I then use another piece to cover the wallpaper that is wrapped in from the outside

 I chose this pattern for the front of the diary...
so spring like and cute


Then I added a butterfly that I cut from a separate piece of wallpaper, it is a sample of a border that coordinates with the wallpaper. 
I also used a permanent marker to write on the cover. My other markers will not write on the wallpaper, it just smears.

So that is my new food diary. Now to write down everything I eat and calculate and write down the WW points too. Hopefully I can loose more weight now or at least know why I am not loosing if I keep track of my food intake and I am honest with myself.

Holiday Bliss Day 16 - Christmas Ornament for this Year

I have wanted to post for the Holiday Bliss every day, but I have been busy... how about you??? I have been shopping with my hubby, cleaning, homeschooling, doing review posts for TOS, and more.

Each year I make an ornament for the family. I started this a couple years ago. I wanted the kids to have ornaments to take to their new homes when they got married. That way they will have things to put on their tree and won't have to buy so much and the memories will be great too. 

This is the ornament I am making for the family this year.

Since we like to sing and are going caroling this year, and have previous years, I thought this would be good. I am of course changing the colors to fit my family and making a different color scheme for each. The picture above is of my daughter Rachel's. The only other change I made to the pattern is that I made french knots for the eyes instead of doing regular stitches. My hubbies will be blue, Jessica's will be burgundy and black, Nathan's will be orange and black, Christopher's will be green and black, mine will be lavender and purple.
