Simple Women's Daybook

FOR TODAY...
Monday, Feb 22

Outside my window...
dark now and cold!!!!

I am thinking...
Spring can't come fast enough

I am thankful for...
God's Word
which I am enjoying reading
in a plan with my church for the whole year
I am a little behind but will be caught up by Thursday

From the learning rooms...
started a new Henty today for Historical Fiction

I am wearing...
brown slacks, white turtleneck, green long sleeve top over that, socks,
I was wearing sneakers but it is late and I took them off.

I am creating...
scrapbook pages later this week... hopefully.

I am going...
to get my hair cut with my Mom on Sat.
Hubby will drive us since our car is "not reliable" (his words)

I am remembering...
that I need to get to reading Pride and Prejudice
or I will never finish my 100 books this year

I am reading...
see above!!!
and a few other things but concentrating on P and P for now

I am hoping...
that no one else gets the cold my son has right now

I am hearing...
hubby talking once in a while and the clatter of keys as I try and finish this so I have a post for today and don't miss a day for the blog every day in Feb. Challenge

On my mind...
sleep
http://zaazu.com

Noticing that...
spring is not here yet...
as there is snow on the ground
again

Around the house...
a mess in my bedroom that I need to clean up

One of my favorite things...
watching movies with my hubby

A few plans for the rest of the week:
scrapbooking, school, exercise, an afternoon with Jessica doing whatever she wants, and hair cut on Sat.

From my camera...
 looking at this

 waiting for these

Simple Women's Daybook, Feb. 8

FOR TODAY...
Tuesday, February 8, 2011

Outside my window...
Partly sunny and very windy
so windy we have a wind advisory in effect

I am thinking...
school has become such a chore...
no fun...
for any of us..
all the boys do is argue...
with each other and with me.

I am thankful for...
times of renewing by reading my Bible and listening to music,
without that I would be in bed, depressed.

From the learning rooms...
Bible- Who is God?  a TOS review item
History - mid 1600's
Historical Fiction - Won By the Sword by Henty
Science - Physics - Light

From the kitchen...
I am making "Fried" Chicken on Thursday.
I have no idea what we are eating the rest of the week,
I asked the kids to meal plan but they did not do it.

I am wearing...
tan pants, flowered shirt, blue sweatshirt, socks, sneakers

I am creating...
 plan to scrapbook this week

I am going...
nowhere

I am remembering...
Love, Pray, Wait, Trust
I need to remember this especially with the boys

I am reading...
see shelfari - My Personal Reading List

I am hoping...
to get the boys to finish school quickly because I have a lot of work to do

I am hearing...
 the girls talking

On my mind...
need to go exercise on the Wii

Noticing that...
Nathan is playing on his computer...
again...
instead of doing his math

Pondering these words...
"Continuing effort -
not strength or intelligence -
is the key to unlocking our potential
~Winston Churchill

Around the house...
still have work I need to do on my bedroom, cleaning that is

One of my favorite things...
playing with my kids
on the Wii, board games, or computer games
especially one at a time.
Time with mom and less stress than trying to do the whole family

A few plans for the rest of the week:
scrapbooking, exercising, time with Nathan tomorrow, cooking dinner Thursday, organizing my files on my D drive and then backing them up to the external drive, and the other stuff on my goals for the week list and on my to-do list upstairs that I can't remember at this moment.

From my camera...
this picture is from last spring
I am waiting for signs of spring at Winterthur
flowers all over March bank...
the forecast predicts temperatures in the 50's a few days the next few weeks
March will be here soon!
I can't wait!

5-8 inches

I am thinking...
that I am ready for spring...

no idea

then we need to go shopping
hubby said shopping would be next week
we need to go to both Shady Maple Farm Market where we buy our meat and bulk foods
and
BB's
also found this link to abc news about saving on food shopping by shopping at BB's
http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=news/consumer/save_with_6abc&id=7325583
and the photos found here are very similar to the BB's we go to
http://www.flickr.com/photos/dorothysh/2285513133/in/photostream/

I am wearing...
green slacks, black turtleneck, white with gray/light gray flowers and green stems, socks, sneakers

I am creating...
a cleaner, more organized home

I am going...
crazy!

Smiley Face

I am remembering...
so many things my head is spinning.
So much to do...
so little time

I am reading...
finished book one for the year only 99 to go
check my updated Shelfari in the left sidebar...
My Personal Reading

I am hoping...
to get a lot done this week

I am hearing...
my son talking about his math,
the washer running

On my mind...
a review due tomorrow
how to get my boys motivated to do their school work without me nagging so much

Noticing that...
the day just flies by

Pondering these words...
Isaiah 53:5 "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

Around the house...
the Christmas decorations still need to get taken down and put away...
waiting for hubby to get the boxes out of the attic so we can do that.

One of my favorite things...
running errands with my hubby
because it is one of the only ways I get out of the house

A few plans for the rest of the week:
exercise, school, organizing, taking down Christmas decorations (hopefully), lots of reading, maybe some more scrapbooking

From my camera...
a Christmas gift from my sister
I love candles and candle holders
I have a whole shelf of them
maybe I will take a picture of that for next week

Simple Woman's Daybook - Jan. 5, 2011

FOR TODAY...
Wednesday January 5, 2011

Outside my window...
mostly sunny and cold

I am thinking...
that my devotions, reading through the Bible in a year with my church, is going really well. Half a week done and I am on track and not behind! I have really been digging into the word... not just reading. I have really been enjoying it too.

From the learning rooms...
Starting back to school tomorrow... will do the major subjects tomorrow and Friday and then hit all 12 workboxes starting Monday.

From the kitchen...
I have no idea... meal planning is one of the things I must get done.
DD Jessica is cooking tonight.
I cook tomorrow night... I have to decide what I am cooking.
I also want to meal plan for the rest of January.

I am wearing...
jeans, light green t-shirt and slippers
(my mom is staying with us, she is 88,
she needs things way warmer than we usually keep the temperatures,
so I have been wearing my short sleeved shirts again.
she goes home tonight and the thermostat will get turned down
and I will put my turtlenecks and sweatshirts back on.)

I am creating...
scrapbook pages (Yippee!!)
school plans

I am going...
to Ladies Bible Study on Friday

I am remembering...
the good time we had with my mom visiting this holiday season. She has been here since Dec. 18th. Yesterday we had a girls day out and spent the afternoon eating out and shopping. Then we watched I Robot as a family. Good Times!

I am reading...
I finished Cat and Dog Theology today!
Book 1/100 done
Now continuing to read...
Written on the Wind by Judith Pell
Instructing a Child's Heart by Tedd and Margy Tripp
Age of Opportunity by Paul Tripp
Prodigal God by Timothy J. Keller
Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling by Debra Bell

Gotta try and finish one more book this week to keep up with the 100 books in a year goal.

I am hoping...
...to finish reading another book this week
...that I can make school fun and interesting to the boys so they don't find it such a chore

I am hearing...
Extreme Makeover - Home Edition... I am listening to/watching on my computer

On my mind...
need to plan school for tomorrow
as soon as I finish this
then plan dinner for tomorrow so that tomorrow when I am teaching school I know what I am having for dinner so one less headache for tomorrow.

Noticing that...
days are getting a little longer...
spring is on the way...
I know we have a long way to go til spring...
but I can hope it comes early can't I??

Pondering these words...
"These are the generations of Shem: Shem was a hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:"
So Shem was 98 years old when the flood was on the earth. Why did I always think he was so young... It took Noah was 500 years old when he had Shem.. then he was over 601 when the flood ended... I just never really put the numbers together.

Around the house...
we will be taking down the Christmas decorations on Saturday.. then the house will get back to "normal", does our family have a normal??? Not really. LOL

One of my favorite things...
Reading...
and I will be doing a lot of it this year in order to read 100 books.
Thankfully I can count books I read aloud to the boys.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
cooking,
eating LOL,
exercising,
scrapbooking,
school,
Christmas decorations down and tubs back into the attic

From my camera...
Know what this is from???

My lovely hubby brought me one of these....

Ahhhh...
Sweet Nectar!!!!

Love McDonald's Sweet Tea!!!
My favorite drink!

Makes any day Better!!

The Simple Woman's Daybook - Sept. 7, 2010

FOR TODAY...
Tuesday, September 7, 2010

Outside my window...
sunny and feeling more muggy again...
supposed to go up to 90 today.
We had a cooler weekend...
weather just letting us know Autumn is coming
I hope it comes soon and stays a long while.

I am thinking...
about the review I need to write today for TOS, it is due on Wed.

I am thankful for...
the opportunity to dig into and study the Bible with my boys

From the learning rooms...
excited about starting Truth Quest: Age of Revolution 1 today.
I think it will be a great addition to our history study.
I want to buy all the levels of these studies on every topic. I just love the way they are laid out and the incite she provides and the emphasis on history being, "not first the story of mankind, but of the One who made mankind!"

From the kitchen...
I have no idea.
We planned and shopped for Labor Day weekend but need to do meal planning and then some regular shopping. We meal planned last month and were supposed to meal plan for Sept. on Sat. but did not do it.

I am wearing...
tan slacks, flower top, socks, sneakers

I am creating...
posts for 365 project to catch up on..
and I hope to take time to scrapbook this week... I haven't do it for a long while.

I am remembering...
the fun time we had playing our new game... watch for a post on it soon.

I am going...
shopping for food, some time.

I am reading...
 Getting Things Done
Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity
Actually have yet to start to read this, hoping to start it later today.
It was recommended by Ellen from Homeschool Marketplace

Also reading Instructing a Child's Heart by Tedd and Margy Tripp for Ladies Bible Study
Instructing a Child's Heart

also something for fun but I don't remember the name because I just started it and the book is upstairs.
Watch for an update in my Shelfari on my sidebar.

I am hoping...
to be able to get together with my friend Michele this week. She said she would call so we could get together. I miss you Michele... call me! Let's get together. I hope you are doing well starting back to homeschooling.

I am hearing...
Beethoven playing for our Music Study for today.

On my mind...
The business my girls are trying to study and what I could do to help us make money from a family website. With my husband laid off things are tight.
Noticing that...
we have a lot of work to do on the house once the fall temperatures allow us to work on things and have the windows open. I hope we have the energy to get it all done. Hubby and the boys also have work to do on the car.

Pondering these words...
Matthew 16:24-26 (King James Version)
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Around the house...
see "Noticing that..."

One of my favorite things...
walks with my family.
Yesterday we went to a local park. I enjoyed looking at God's creation while walking and sitting.

From my camera...
a lovely vista...

This photo was taken from my spot while sitting and waiting for my hubby to go find our kids so we could go home after our walk at a park yesterday. A couple minutes after he went down this hill the kids came up the hill by the way of the steps which were to my left. I was so glad I decided to wait here for him. Jessica then went to find him... a couple minutes later they both trudged back up this hill.

The Simple Woman's Daybook - April 13, 2010

FOR TODAY...
Tuesday, April 13, 2010

Outside my window...
gloomy, waiting for rain, freshly cut grass that my hubby cut before the rain comes

I am thinking...
about sooo many things,
  • layoff/unemployment for dh
  • finances
  • dentists
  • TOS Crew Reviews overdue... forgotten because of layoff
  • Ladies Retreat
  • homeschooling
  • homeschool convention I wish I could go to
  • how will we get the school needs I have for next year with our finances limited by unemployment... again
  • boys fighting and being selfish
  • clothing needs for the boys
  • My mom still here... taking her to her Needlework Guild meeting on Thursday, then she will go home, I am sure she is ready to get home to her own comfortable place and her TV (we don't have cable)
  • Wish is could just sit and cuddle in a blanket and watch movies.
I am thankful for...
our church's deacons approving a scholarship for me to go to our Ladies Retreat. The girls and I have saved up, and with the scholarship, all three of us can go. I can't wait!

From the learning rooms...
The boys are doing a week of textbooks to show them all I do for them in planning each week. I got samples from the internet. Usually we do Unit Studies that I plan for History and Science and various other things. This week it is all textbooks for them and tests on Friday. I am not sure if this is getting through to them or not, but I hope it cuts down on some of the complaining I have been getting.

I am wearing...
green slacks, short sleeved top and white sweatshirt with green flowers and leaves and writing. It is cool today... oh, socks and sneakers to... ready to take dd to the dentist later.

I am creating...
TOS Homeschool Crew Review's for my blog...
not much else
still have not had time to scrapbook
I have a mini scrapbook to make pockets for my prayer cards... no time for that either
I also need to crop and work on my photos for the 365 project, have not done that either

and I need to start the Terrestria Chronicles so I can do that review too.

I am hoping...
that my husband gets a new job soon,
and a better one this time,
he hated his last job.
In this economy it is scary to have your spouse out of work.

I am hearing...
chairs shuffling, fridge opening, some chatting,
it is Lunch Time

Around the house...
hubby is planning to catch up on some projects that need to get done around the house since he is laid off
I will keep you updated with pictures as we go.

Blooms abound at Winterthur... on tree and ground...
watch for more photos coming soon...
as soon as I have time to crop, and make some photo collages.
My son Christopher helped me choose this one from the many we took.

Because of the unseasonably warm temperatures we have had, many things are blooming early at Winterthur.

The Simple Woman's Daybook - Feb. 8, 2010

FOR TODAY... Monday, Feb.8, 2010

Outside my window...
bright and sunny, sun reflecting off of snow and making it even brighter

I am thinking...
that I want to do an update on how I am doing with my 2010 goals

I am thankful for...
snowy days stuck inside with my family,
watching movies, eating snacks, and drinking hot chocolate

From the learning rooms...
History: finishing up da Vinci, starting Michaelangelo
Science: working on Acids and Bases, then on Solids and Liquids
Bible: Review 4 and then King Saul
Composers: Liszt and Verdi
Historical Fiction: St. Bartholomew's Eve
also: Math, Wordsmith, Grammar, Graphics Toolbox, Guitar,
Building Life Relationships, Educational Foundations, and Home and Life Management

I am wearing...
tan pants, white turtleneck, blue sweatshirt, socks, crocs

I am creating...
365 Project photos and
still hoping to do some scrapbooking

On my mind...
the dawn picture I took this morning ... see below...  and this song

Noticing that...
the world is brighter with the snow on the ground

Pondering these words...
from my devotions this morning...
Stepping Heavenward
"What then will be the future of...children? How can they yield to God who have never been taught to yield to human authority? And how well fitted will they be to rule their own households who have never learned to rule themselves."

I am going...
shopping and to the library tonight
more snow to come Tuesday night-Wednesday
up to a foot more
we already have 2 feet of snow
not normal for around here

I am reading...
The Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling
that I need to read for a TOS Homeschool Crew review.

I am hoping...
the snow Tuesday night-Wed will not be too much for my dh to handle in driving, getting to work

I am hearing...
the noises of kids doing school, getting a snack, and chatting here and there

Around the house...
 chores need to be done

One of my favorite things...
having the whole school week planned out
knowing that I only have to grade and record what the boys do
and then put the pages/directions in the workboxes for tomorrow

A few plans for the rest of the week:
 school, blogging, a TOS review due by Wed., time with my family;
scrapbooking, I hope.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...
