Think Back Thursday ~ Christmas Long Ago

The purpose of Think Back Thursday is to link up a photo post about something from the past. You can reach back all the way to your childhood and bravely post pictures of you in your wild clothes and hair styles or post something from last year and tell us about it. I'm not picky. Hey, even yesterday was the past... LOL

Today Dec. 27
Christmas Long Ago
(how long ago is up to you :-)

My photos today are from long, long ago.
Christmas 1967 and Christmas 1968

I was 6 years old at this time in 1967.

My mom says this is probably Thanksgiving dinner. I am leaving it in however because it was developed at the same time (dated Jan. 1968 like the others). Mom said we didn't usually have turkey on Christmas so it was probably Thanksgiving.  (left to right) Me, my sister-in-law Irene (though they weren't married yet, Lew and Irene were married in August of '68), my brother Lew, my Great Aunt Marion, and my Aunt Evelyn (with curlers still in her hair as usual).

This is my mom in the lower corner and our Christmas tree.

My sister Chris. This is a box for 78 records... anyone remember those??

Our tree again... you can see all the gifts under it still.
It is so fun to see old things I remember from our home, like the metal chair in the lower left and the high stool next to the tree. The metal chair folded up if you needed it to, it had a padded plastic seat. It is sitting at my mom's sewing machine at the moment. The sorta greenish gray, high stool also worked as a step stool; the seat folds up, it only had 2 steps. Also in the background is the pole lamp.... ahhh memories. You can also just barely see my dad's face, upper left.

 My mom.
See my new, red bicycle in the background?
And, quite a stack of unidentifiable gifts.

The photos below are from 1968. I was 7
Me, I don't know whose house we were at... that is not our tree, our tree is in the picture below. It seems to be a real live tree, unlike ours which was always artificial.

Mom and I, our tree, and a couple of my gifts... dolls.

Mom and I. Step carefully so you don't step on any gifts. I see what looks like a box of crayons. I always loved getting a new box of crayons! Still do, though I don't color very often.

Me and my cat Tuffy. Loved that cat. We got her from my aunt. She was found on a boxcar at her workplace. Tuffy came all the way from CA to PA on that boxcar (it was never opened on route) and she meowed so long that she lost her voice and never got it back. She was declawed and housebroken. She was a family pet I am sure, before she came to us, and someone in CA probably missed her but I was sooo glad to have her for my own.

My daddy and I, I am holding Tuffy again though it is hard to tell with the photo this size.

Our tree that year. You can see the plastic bells (upper right)  my mom hung every year over the doorway from the living room to the dining room. The "garland" has plastic bells and plastic holly on it.

Our side table with the manger scene on it. There is white angel hair under it. You had to be really careful with that stuff because it was spun glass... see here... http://vintagechristmasdecorations.ecrater.com/p/3439409/spun-glass-christmas-angel-hair. And, that is my brother Lew's graduation picture under the table. He was in college and I was only 7 years old! I don't know what ever happened to this manger scene. I know I don't have it, I don't think any of the family has it either. Maybe it didn't survive. It was already old at this point and I still have a lot of growing up to do.

Well, that is my Christmas past post for this year. I will probably do Christmas past again next year because I have a lot of photos of Christmas time. I have more from my childhood and then I have a bunch from my married life with my children.

January Themes
I have not decided on photos for January yet...
so...
for Jan. 3, 2013 we will do photos of Snow
(with or without people is fine)
I am sure we all have snow pictures and I will work on the rest of the January themes before next week's post.

Here are the Rules for participating:
  • It can be about you, about your kids, about your parents, whomever. You can include video, I will not exclude video alone posts, but I prefer them along with photos, as this is a photo meme. I am doing a weekly theme now. That should help narrow it down from the myriad of photos we all have. For ideas check out the other posts in my label Think Back Thursday.
  • Link up below. Please use a permalink that sends readers directly to the correct post. If you are not sure what that is click the word permalink for an explanation.
  • Mention my blog and offer a link back. This is a requirement to take part and a kind gesture to me your hostess as well as your readers--they will know where to join in the fun, too. You can put the Think Back Thursday button on your site and in your post. You will find it on my right sidebar. Please use it to link to my site, to spread the word about my meme. Using the button will help others know how to find me and how to join. Tell others to click on the button in your post to find us here.
  • Leave me a comment. First so that you can let me know what you think of my pictures and secondly so that I will know a new post has been linked up and I can come visit your blog and comment on your photos.

Scary seeing the generations progress in my blog post. I resemble my Gram Hall in body type. Fighting to prevent continued pounds to accumulate, like they did on so many women in my geneology.
