Homeschool Mother's Journal - Summer Edition ~ Guests

In my life this week…
We have 2 friends of my daughters visiting from Texas. This was their first time meeting... they knew each other from a devotional blog they all write for. We have taken them all over the place in the past week and they have one more week with us. They went to Winterthur and Washington, DC while I was at my mom's house. Monday we went to Valley Forge. Thursday to Shady Maple.

I went to visit my mother, sister and brother-in-law last weekend. My mother and I had hair appointments on Saturday, I have to take her every 15 weeks. She gets a perm every 15 weeks and my sister does not have time to wait for her because she has to work on Saturdays. So I went up on Friday, we rented a car (my mom gave her leased car back because she can't see to drive now). We spent almost 3 hours at Target then went home to eat dinner with my mom, my sister and brother-in-law, my nephew and his wife, and my brother-in-laws mom. It was a really good dinner. We relaxed in the evening.

Sat. we had the hair appointments, then mom called my cousin and we went to visit her. She has cancer, had been doing chemo, and mom wanted to visit. During our visit we found out that she has stopped treatment... she has had enough. We did not get a prognosis but she said she knows the cancer is growing. She is being kept comfortable with pain meds and had been sleeping a lot. While we were there she seemed to be feeling good. She has good and bad days and times. She has not been interested in eating much and some foods cooking makes her feel nauseous. please pray for her and her family, her name is Katheryn. My sister, brothers and I grew up with her children. My brother is coming from Indiana to visit while she is still well enough for visitors.

Last night I went back to PA with my hubby because my brother from Indiana and his wife are here visiting for the weekend. They came to see my cousin that mom and I visited last Saturday. My brother wanted to see her now, before something happens, while she is still alert, at least sometimes. Anyway, we went out for dinner. My brother from Indiana, Bob, and his wife Janice; my sister Chris, her husband Dave, her son Jason and his wife Kasel, Dave's mother, my brother Lew and his wife Irene, my mom, Court and I. We went to Ruby Tuesday and we had a good time.

I am inspired by…
My mother... 88 years old and going strong. Lots of health problems this past year but still reading her Bible and doing things for my sister as she can. She is a faithful and Godly role model.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
Today the girls are celebrating all their birthdays with a party. One is in March, one April, one June, one August but the made a cake and gave each other presents while they were together. Tomorrow is church and Growth Group. Monday we are planning to go to Longwood Gardens. Tues or Wed. we will have a girls day out. Thursday Sarah and Rose go back to Texas.

My favorite thing this week was…
Dinner at Shady Maple Smorgasbord Thursday and looking around in the shops.

Questions/thoughts I have…
How will my daughters react when their friends go back to Texas. I know they will miss them a lot.

Things I’m working on…
Transcripts for Nathan, logging books into Book Collector software, blogging, reading, devotions, exercising, my summer goal list.

I’m reading…
Love's Enduring Promise
Power of a Praying Wife
Prodigal God
Orange and Green by Henty
Emma by Jane Austen
and  a few more...

I’m praying for…
My cousin Kathryn and her family and other online friends I have that have or have children that are fighting cancer.

My hubby- I joined the S.H.M.I.L.Y. for 30 days of prayer to pray for my husband every day in June. We are supposed to read the book The Power of a Praying Wife and pray one chapter a day. I was a little behind but I am slowly catching up.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…
My hubby was looking through his box of negatives and found a treasure.
He is the keeper of the negatives but I am the keeper of the photos.
He found this stack of photos...
some of them I have not seen in a long time...
others I don't remember ever seeing.

So I have some scanning to do...
and then I have new things to put up for Blast From The Past for the next few weeks...
actually...
probably months.
