on sale right now for  $3.19 (Normally $3.99). That is a great price for all the things you get in this kit. I love that with the kits you get such a variety that you can make pages with the same kit that look so different.

I have to admit that I did some scraplifting.
One thing you must do when scraplifting is give credit where credit is due.
I scraplifted this design of the page elements from Albums To Remember. It was a free template I got from Barb a while back called 'AK 1 template' from her theme Everyday. You can still buy it here... and go compare her page to mine...

I used her template as a guide and made the page below. I think it came out wonderfully.... one of my best pages ever. I should have put the date on there... I know it was summer 1989.

I love the Popsicle alphabet, the variety of colors of backgrounds and elements and the FUN picnic items like the basket (above) and the ants (below).

AND

here is a FUN page with my dad, mom and I at the same place... looks like it may be the same hill as it was a favorite spot for picnics. Oh how I have been missing my dad these days even though he has been in heaven for 38 years, since I was 14.

I tried to participate in a few challenges on the My Memories forum a couple months ago. I found it was impossible to complete many of the challenges because I don't have money or Internet at home. I did make a couple pages but I never got to post them. It did help me to learn some things about digital scrapbooking and it did challenge me. Since I am at my sisters house this week I will try and post them here on my blog in the next couple days. I hope to have Internet at home again some day soon and then I can participate in more monthly challenges and blog more here as well.

Chemistry 101 and Biology 101

note: I was given these dvd sets for free. I agreed to write a review for my blog in return for these free items. The review is honest and not influenced by the receiving of free items.


I was pleased to have the opportunity to use the video sets of Chemistry 101 and Biology 101. It is a great help to have such a wonderful addition to our homeschool curriculum. We were in need of high school level science resources and these are factual and biblical.

The sets were created and hosted by homeschooling father and fifteen-year veteran filmmaker Wes Olson. He did a splendid job. These sets are created for kids ages 15 and up but younger children will enjoy the videos and you could get more books and other resources on their level to round out a year long program for them.

The Chemistry set has 4 DVD's and contains 19 individual video segments, for a total running time of over 11 hours, as well as a guidebook. The guidebook includes information to go with each lesson, and a quiz covering the material for each video segment. There is also a pdf with the information on how to make this set into a full one year high school chemistry course.

Chemistry 101 is divided into four main sections: The Road to the Periodic Table, Chemistry Essentials, Meet the Elements, and The Future of Chemistry. This course will help your student(s), and maybe it will help you , understand what the Periodic Table means and how to balance chemical equations, and you will have an introductory knowledge of every element. You will also learn about the history of chemistry, including short biographies of many famous chemists. Here is a sample of the guidebook containing chapter 2, the Birth of Modern Chemistry. For the stretched out course (both Chemistry and Biology) Wes gives the kids assignments. Books to look for and read from the library, essays to write, field trip possibilities, lab work, and other things. He even includes some Bible studies on relevant topics. You can pick and choose what will best suit your student(s) or you could let you student choose.

The Biology set has 4 DVD's as well with 9 video segments, a guidebook, and a pdf  including information to ‘stretch’ the course from 9 lessons to a full year of Biology, the same as the Chemistry set. The videos are presented in accordance with the days of Creation using exceptional video footage supported by tons of interesting visuals and graphics. The information in both sets is accurate and these videos have been recommended by some of the most popular homeschool bloggers, by ICR, by Answers in Genesis and now by ME!!!  

We received these items the beginning of 2014. We had already done 3/4 of a year of chemistry. We did not have time to use the stretched out course. We watched the dvd’s. Then, Christopher read the lesson from the pdf that goes with the video then he took the quiz. He greatly enjoyed the videos, found them interestingly presented and containing good solid information. It was a good wrap-up for our year.

The only problem I have with these sets is that the video cases they come in seem cheap to me. My cases came broken with some of the dvd's in each set sliding around. I don't think this was the fault of the shipping as the outside of the cases was fine and the packaging was fine that they arrived in. It's just the buttons that you push to 'unlock' the dvd's from the case that were broken. Luckily they were not scratched in the process. I will be purchasing better cases for my dvd's to prevent them from getting scratched in the future.

I am looking forward to the release of Physics 101... set to come out in the spring of 2015. I have been promised a copy to review for my blog at that time so stay tuned for that.

Timberdoodle has some reviews on there site and they have gotten permission to put part of one of the lessons from Chemistry 101 on their site as a YouTube video so you can see Wes Olson, the teacher, and how he presents the information. Spring Fling Digital Scrapbooking kit - my lovely pages

With this kit I was able to make quite a variety of pages.

The first you will see below.

I have to admit that I did some scraplifting...
that means that I used someone else's page as a 'guide'.

This is how a designer on My Memories describes scraplifting.

"Often it's tricky to know where to start on a layout, but then you see a lovely layout, and you say, "I like that!  I can make a layout like that!"  Luckily in this field, it's considered a compliment to the layout artist who made the layout, and you're not copying it, you're scraplifting it!

What is ScrapLifting?  You use the general placement of the papers and elements and photos and text (or any of these), and with your own photo(s) and a kit of your choice, you make a similar layout.  You can use as much of the style and placement as you need, you can flip it around or resize sections to fit your needs, and you can make it your own.  Generally, a scraplift will look like the layout enough that it's obvious it is a scraplift."

One thing you must do is give credit where credit is due.

I scraplifted this design from the ABDDesigns_GL-OdysseusPenelope_Apr23 quickpage by Anita Birrell.

The quickpage, I think, was a freebie I received through the newsletter I get from http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com. Anita sells her kits through this store.

I could not find the quickpage for sale anywhere. I wanted you to see the original.... this is a small jpg of the quickpage... I think this will be ok because I made it pretty small and changed it from a png which you could use and insert a photo into to a jpg; so you can't insert a photo and it should be useless to anyone unless it inspires them to do a similar page.

 You can still get the kit HERE though... and it looks like a great kit. I would love to have it.

I hope you can see the similarities to Anita's page.

I used a photo of a single plant that I took at Longwood Gardens a few years ago. I kept my photo a square. I guess I could have done a circle since the flowers would have allowed for that, but I didn't.

I love the cluster of flowers on the left. Each of those items: flowers, buttons, leaves, other do-dads, and lace; is a separate element from the kit that I put together into this cluster... it took me quite a few hours. I took liberties with her design and added the bush and little chick on the lower left. I also used 5 papers from the kit... one for the background, one on a tilt for the layered look the original had, two behind the cluster on the far left, and the last as a background for the photo, since I didn't have a fancy photo frame in the kit that matched. I also love the color combination I created and the buttons at the bottom left of the page which were scraplifted from Anita's quickpage.



Using the same kit I created this fun page of my daughters visiting the Easter Bunny when they were younger. The bunny and eggs and more colorful papers make look so different. Hard to believe this came from the same kit.

This next page came out so lovely. I am very happy with it.

3 papers used for the background and for layers. A few flowers and plants in the corner with a pretty pink ribbon as contrast, and the lovely tag for posting what the picture depicts.

First Day of School 2004 part 2

You can find the pages I did with Teacher’s Pet part 1 here.

Kit one has green, orange and blue elements. Kit 2 has purple, red and yellow elements. There are a variety of paper colors: solids and patterns. Both kits together give you a lot of variety of items. Some items, like the rulers, come in each of the kits in all the variety of colors, some items are only found in one or two of the colors. I want to scrapbook some more school photos combining the two kits.

Jessica – this page shows her well, one moment seriously working on her schoolwork, or a project of her own, the next moment kidding around with her siblings. She is a joy to our family.

Rachel graduated in June of 2004… our first graduate.

Here you see her sorting recipes. Cooking is one of Rachel’s favorite things to do. She is a big helper to me, and has been since she was very young. She helped with the cooking and she helped me teach her siblings.

Yeah, that’s me. I dressed up for the first day of school.

I am happy, most days, to be the kids teacher as well as mom.

We have had many adventures over the years.

I hope you enjoyed both parts of this series. I did. I love looking back on our years of homeschooling. Back then it seemed like the days were eternally long... now the years have flown by.

Christmas 2000 Digital Scrapbook pages

I used the  Digi Cyber Scraps kit Tis the Season.

I love Christmas and looking back at those happy days of the past is just as fun as celebrating the day.

My kids were so young and cute. My when you are going through the days when your kids are young you feel as if the days are long and the kids will never grow up. Now that they are it seems the days passed way to quickly. Ahhhh, sweet memories.
