August Audit ~ Yearly Goal Update

“Never lose sight of the fact that the most important yardstick of your success will be how you treat other people – your family, friends, and co-workers, and even strangers you meet along the way.” ~ Barbara Bush

I believe that is true, which is why when I had things to do today and my dear daughter Rachel (age 27), who is laid up on the couch with a bad case of poison sumac, and bored out of her mind, asked me to watch an episode of I Love Lucy with her and play a short game I could not say no. So we played three games of Rack-O. She won 2 out of 3.

Family is more important than goals and other things we feel we need to do. I did well Sunday anyway and got a bunch of stuff done.  It is also why when my hubby says, "Do you want to go pick up Nathan/go to the store/ go for a walk/etc. with me?" and I have stuff to do I say yes anyway. And, when hubby says, "Do you want to read our book together or watch a movie together?" I say yes if I possibly can and only say no if I really must get something done. Same with my other 3 kids. Family comes first for me. Actually second.. God comes first. I really mean that. Family second. Other people third. Homeschooling comes fourth. Things I need to do fifth.

I had a great month.

I did well on my reading. I am not going to be doing a monthly reading update separate from this. I will let you know what books I read and how I am doing on my yearly reading goal. If you want to read my book reviews see my Goodreads account. I am writing them all there as soon after I finish reading the book as I can, while things are fresh in my mind.

I did well with almost all my other goals too, check it out!!!

The main goal is in bold and under that are the smaller steps to reaching those goals.
  • Main Goal
    • The updates will be here
      • or here.. in purple.
The positive steps I have made with my goals this month have a smiling smiley face   in front, the goals that I still have to work on have a sad face in front. Some are not really sad but that is the best contrast I could make between completed and not completed. The color thing was getting to complicated and I love smileys so I am sticking with them.

Personal Goals:
Spiritual
  • Work on my prayer life. Pray is my word for 2013.
    • Start reading a book on prayer. My hubby bought me a new book off my Amazon list.
      • Books read/reading see above.
      • I started a private blog for just God and I to see. I made it so it can't be searched by the search engines and you have to be invited to read. I needed another way to focus. I focus well while writing so I decided to try and blog my prayers to God. I am keeping up with this and enjoying writing on my prayer blog more and more often.
  • Be Grateful. I will be joining the Joy Dare @ Ann Voscamp's blogClick the link to check it out. You can print her prompts for each month or do your own thing. Just be grateful... 3 a day for 365 days gives you more than 1000 things to look back at on Dec. 31, 2013. Let's record 1000 things to be grateful to the Lord for.
    • Doing well. Writing in all the 1,000 gifts notebooks I have: The one for Joy Dare, one in my purse, a composition book for things to be thankful for of my own... not using the prompts she gives in Joy Dare, and one for things to be thankful for about my husband.
  • Memorize 2 verses or portions of scripture a month with my new group on Facebook. We post one verse/portion on the 1st and one on the 15th. With this I will memorize 24+ verses a year... more than in 2012 since I didn't memorize any. I started using Scripture Typer to help me memorize and review the verses.
    • Doing much better. Learned this month's 2 verses and a passage from previous months. I am still behind but I am catching up.. working hard at it. I want to succeed with this. Not just so I can say I did it but so I have God's word, which I need, hidden in my heart.
Health and Fitness
  • Exercise more, more often and consistently. I would like to be much more fit by the end of 2013. As far as healthy eating goes I will be doing the best I can. (With my husband being unemployed for 33 months now things are tough and we can't always afford fruits and vegetables. If I exercise I will feel better... that is better than nothing.)
    • Start by using the Wii daily for at least 15 minutes2-3 times a week and increase from there. My goal for Exercise is to not quit.... this, I hope, will inspire me...
      • Did better than some months but not great.
Educational
  • Read some books/magazines to expand my own education. (The spiritual book are very educational but I have other books I would like to read as well... non-fiction and historical fiction.)

Personal/Leisure
That makes 8 books total for August. I did well catching up since my goal is 4 books for the month. I am now only one book behind.
  • Continue blogging and remember it is supposed to be for fun and for the records for my family. Use the blogging ideas pdf I bought in 2012.
    •   I had a really bad week/day and quit blogging. That night and the next day I thought about things and decided it was Think Back Thursday I was hating. So I am still doing Goal Planning Monday and this update. I also need my blog to post my digital scrapbook pages for my Creative Team 'job'.
  • Work on some crafts just for me. Things I have wanted to do, work on, make. Some from Pinterest, some will be things I have been working on already or wanting to do for a while.
    • I doodled. I can't post my doodles because they were for friends of my daughters'. I counted them her as 'just for me' because I love to doodle so it was not work it was a joy to do and great practice.
  • Spend at least one day a month scrapbooking, digital or paper.
    • I did digital scrapbooking this past month.
  • Play at least one board game a month with someone in the family.
    • I could cheat and say that I did because I played a game with my daughter today, but it is September so it counts for this month, not last month. At least I know I have this covered for September though :-) I don't think I played any other games last month. I HAVE to do better at keeping track.
Homeschool Goals:
  • Keep up with planning and ordering any materials Christopher needs for school.
    • Doing well. I just ordered more History. I found some things for Christopher to read that we own until they come in. I was a little late ordering, but I am making it work.
  • Be consistent with reviewing Christopher's daily assigned work and making sure he completes everything assigned to him, log it into my school log, and then put the stuff away in the folders/notebooks where it belongs.
    • Five weeks of school done. things are going well.
  • Check periodically on Christopher's hours for school. I don't want to have to do his transcript all in his Sr. year.
    • Don't need to do this for a few more weeks. Don't want to wait to long though, I want to keep up so I don't have to much to do all at one time.
How I did in August...

Goal Planning Monday ~ Read, Review, Bake a Cake

Doodles about goals are from Homegrown Hospitality, Stephanie Ackerman is the owner of that site and it is her Doodle class that I did last year. I LOVE her stuff.

Hmmmm....   Godly goals. Not sure about the hell part but otherwise it is good advice. God is sure stretching my faith with this loooong trial we are in. I am trying to keep doing his will... daily.

I got more reading done last week. I got some doodling done. I broke down and cried a few times... ok more than a few. I didn't exercise. I didn't make my WW cake.

BUT... I got back to first thing in the morning devotions... and I am LOVING it. It gives me so much comfort and I can handle my days so much better when I stay close to the Lord.

And... I doodled over the weekend...
And I enjoyed watching old Cosby Show reruns on dvd with my kids. We borrowed them from the library. It was fun to laugh with my kids.

http://zaazu.comThis week I want to Read more... I am enjoying it sooo much. Get the review done that I need to do... and I wanted to get another R word but couldn't think of one so the last most important thing to get done is Bake.. then I can eat cake while I Read and Review.

,

Participants... It is not a requirement to comment on each others blogs but it would be nice to encourage each other. Please try and come back and check who else links up and go comment on their blog post. And comment on mine as well, we ALL could use some building up and community.

My top priorities are marked with a *

If you need directions on how to join in... see my GPM page up above.

My goals for this coming week:
Spiritual Goals
  1. *Morning Devotions - including Bible reading(Proverbs), prayer, listening to music and reading a spiritual book. I am starting Confessions of a Prayer Slacker for my next book. Prayer will be a focus this year as that is my word for 2013.  Done - and really enjoying my time as I said. I finished Confessions of a Prayer Slacker. I will get my review of it done soon. I am not going to be posting my reading reviews here on my blog. I will let you know what I finish reading but if you are interested further you can read my reviews on Goodreads... see my widget on my sidebar.
  2. Participate in the Joy Dare in 2013. Writing down 3 things each day that are gifts from God, things to be thankful for totaling more than 1000 gifts in 2013.Write in my other 1,000 gifts notebooks. Done - all caught up and I wrote some in my personal 1,000 gifts notebooks.
  3. Finish reading Overwhelmed and get the review and giveaway posted on my blog. This is Spiritual (because it is a spiritual book) and reading and blog. I couldn't decide what section to post it in... so I posted it at the top. Partly Done - I finished reading the book and doing the study questions.... this week I will post the review and giveaway... a week late... but oh, well. I am doing what I can do and leaving the rest to God.
Homeschool Goals
  1. Do school with Christopher. Done - enjoying reading Henty to Christopher and Rachel. We are reading Held Fast for England. It was exciting from the very first chapter.
  2. Grade and Record work done, DAILY. Done
  3. Prep the next day's school, especially science! Done
Fitness Goals
  1. I must get back to exercising this week. Working out on the Wii. Not Done
  2. *Get my Weight Watchers dessert made... MUST DO! I know... I have said it so many times you are sick of seeing it. So am I and I want to eat the cake so I hope to get this done early this week. Not Done
  3. Eat fruit and veggies and drink water. Done
Blog Goals
  1. Comment on everyone's blog that links up to the Goal Planning Monday linky. Done - no problem since no one linked up
  2. Blog only what I want to blog about except for... Done - which was nothing but Goal Planning Monday because I didn't even get my review up...
  3. A review and giveaway I have due this week. Partly Done - see note up in devotions section
Personal/Other Goals
  1. Read. Done and greatly enjoyed. See my Goodreads widget for the books I am currently reading.
  2. Work on, maybe even finish, 2 digital scrapbook pages for my Creative Team 'job'. I have a school kit and I have not made time to work on it. I looked at the kit and it has some things missing. The scrapbook blog owner is going to send me the missing parts... then I want to do the pages and get them posted here on the blog. Not Done - waiting for my leader to send the missing pieces to the kit. Can't do anything 'til she does so I am taking this off my goal list. If she sends them this week I will do the pages. If not maybe I will just do some pages for myself from kits I already have.
  3. Hang the crochet heart Rachel made me and the wooden box I decorated a while back. Not Done - need Jessica's help because I can't fit behind my desk standing up to reach the wall.
For this week that is 9 Done, 2 Partly Done, and 4 Not Done.
