Yearly Goals Update ~ August

This is my update. I want to stay accountable for achieving my 2011 goals. I want to do better than last year. I want to remind myself what my goals are and keep working toward them. I missed doing the update the First of July but at least I got it done the first week.
The positive steps I have made with my goals this month have a http://zaazu.comsmiling smiley face in front, the goals that I still have to work on have a sad face in front. Some are not really sad but that is the best contrast I could make between completed and not completed. The color thing was getting to complicated and I love smileys so I am sticking with them.

Personal Goals:
Spiritual
  • Be more consistent with my personal devotions.
    • http://zaazu.comOur church started a year long challenge to read through the Bible. We are using Daily Walk from Walk Thru the Bible. I am starting Jeremiah.
Health and Fitness
  • Exercise more, more often and consistently. I would like to be much more fit by the end of 2011.
    • http://zaazu.comI am getting back to exercising regularly after a summer of ups and downs. It's all good... it is a long term commitment to healthier living.
  • Eat better and loose weight. I have been doing great on drinking my water.
    • http://zaazu.comI have done better with my water intake this week. I have not tracked my eating but I have tracked my weight. I also lost weight last week.
Educational
  • Read some books on homeschooling and other educational topics.
    • I did not finish reading any educational books in July.
    • I need to work on finishing:
      • How to Have a H.E.A.R.T. For Your Kids by Rachael Carman
      • The Prodigal God by Timothy Keller. (I got a new copy from my pastor at church because mine was still lost. The next day I found my copy. So funny the way those things happen.) The part in parenthesis happened months ago and I still have not finished reading this... this is top of my list of to-do's for this week.
      • Promises, Promises: Understanding and Encouraging your Husband by the wives of 12 prominent Christian leaders. Challenging reading for marriage
      • Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling - this will be one I work on finishing reading over the summer.
  • Work on my own writing projects.
    • I am working on the History Unit study projects and the E-book on Homeschool Organizing I was writing. I have other things that have taken priority. I plan to keep working on these but but don't know when. We just started school but I did not even finish the things on my Summer Goal list. So it is still waiting to be done.
Personal/Leisure
  • Spend one afternoon at least every other week doing scrapbooking.
    • Stuff is piling up on my scrapbooking table again, showing me that I have not made time to do this. I wanted to make time to work on it this summer but the time is ran away from me. For now I cannot do it because I have portfolio stuff from last year on my table to do. It is also difficult to scrapbook when Jessica keeps taking some of my stuff down to the living room to use for her scrapbooking and then doesn't work on it for days. It is all just excuses though. I need to make goals and priorities and then get them done.
  • Read some books for pleasure.
    • http://zaazu.comI finished reading Somewhere a Song by Judith Pella.
    • http://zaazu.comI finished reading Back Home Again by Melody Carlson book one of the Grace Chapel Inn series
    • I am also reading Emma but that is slow going. I need to read some of this each week or I will not be getting all the Jane Austen books read this year.
    • While waiting for the next book in the Grace Chapel Inn series I plan to read one of the books from the Love Comes Softly series that I own and have not read for a long time.
  • Continue blogging and remember it is supposed to be for fun and for the records for my family.Write more consistently on my blog at least 3 posts a week.
    • http://zaazu.com I have done pretty well last week. I posted 8 posts in 6 days last week... much better.
    • http://zaazu.com I quit my Blast From The Past I may do one this week. It is discouraging to not have anyone joining me. Maybe I need
    • http://zaazu.com I posted 17 posts in July. June was 24 posts so that is not as good but July was really busy with preparing for school.
Homeschool Goals:
  • Be more consistent on recording daily in our school log.
    • http://zaazu.comI have been keeping up with this... but it is only day 6... so we will see if I keep it up for the long run.
  •  Be consistent with reviewing the boys daily assigned work and making sure they complete everything assigned to them and then put the stuff away in the folders/notebooks where it belongs.
    •  http://zaazu.com I am being consistent with reviewing the workboxes but the boys have not finished all 12 boxes yet. Tomorrow is another day.
  • Complete the first half of my 3rd year on the TOS Homeschool Crew Review
    • http://zaazu.com  So far so good I have my first three items and we are using them. I have one more on the way in the mail. Two are games, one is a Bible Curriculum, and the last is a book for Mom's.
Family/Relationship Goals:
  • Get back to evening read aloud time with the boys.
    • I have not been doing it. We are still on Little House in the Big Woods. I need to make it a priority at least 3 nights a week. I have not read to the boys since March.I need to talk to the boys about this.
  • Get back to meal planning because meals are more varied and we will have the ingredients shopped for ahead of time.
    • http://zaazu.comWe did well in May and June with planning and doing meals.  I never did plan July meals. I planned this weeks meal and I need to plan the rest of August.
  • Spend more time with my dear husband
    • http://zaazu.comWe went to a movie and out to dinner one day for our anniversary. The next day we played miniature golf and went out to dinner again. We did not have the money to stay in a hotel but at least we got to spend the 2 days together. It was so nice. I had been spending so much time planning school it was good to take 2 days off for fun.
    • http://zaazu.comHubby has promised to play games with me but we have not done it yet.
  • Spend time once a week with one of my kids, just mom and one of the kids having lunch in my bedroom alone and then doing whatever the child wants to do. Usually a combo of eating, talking and playing board games and/or computer games. Goal is one child a week, so they all get one afternoon with mom a month.Start with my youngest and schedule it on the calendar so I can keep track of who is next for their turn. We can add time on the Wii together now
    • http://zaazu.comJessica and Rachel both had their days in July. It is now Christopher's turn. I would like to get all 4 kids to have a day in August the way it is supposed to be.
So, that is my yearly goal update. I have 15 things with smiling smiley faces and 4 with sad smiley faces so more things are done then undone. Things are looking good for my yearly goals.
Did you make goals for this year? How are you doing on your goals? Keep track of your goals and how you are doing will help you achieve much this year. Watch for my final update on my summer goals which I will post Wednesday.

Doing the weekly goals meme on Mondays helps too.

Goal Planning Monday ~ Week 27

It is Goal Planning Monday!!
How are you doing with your goals??

School is starting up for many of us homeschoolers... or at least serious planning is going on. Now would be a great time to make some goals for the week and join us in posting them, striving to meet them and then letting us know next week how you are doing.

Click on the button above to view all the Goal Planning Monday links and find out how to join up with us.

My Goals from last week and how I did:
Spiritual Goals
  1. Keep up with reading through the Bible in a year. Done. I am caught up to today but have not done today's yet. I will do it as soon as I get to my room after the boys are done school.
  2. Keep reading Power of a Praying Wife and praying for my husband. Not Done. I need to get back to this. My hubby needs the prayer and I feel closer to him when I am regularly reading this and praying for him.
Homeschool Goals
  1. Work on portfolios of school stuff from this past year. Not Done. I need to work on this and get it finished. School was harder last week than I thought it would be and I did not get much done in the evenings because we took a long time to get school done and I was worn out.
  2. Continue planning History for this coming year. Not Done. Same answer as #1 in homeschool.
  3. Keep up with recording the boys school each day and making sure they do all 12 workboxes. Done. At least I did this and school last week got done. Today is going so much better than last week because I got the boys to do the workboxes in the order I had them set up...that means we did our together subjects first and after lunch they can work on their individual boxes. Hopefully they will be all done by about 2pm.
Health and Fitness Goals
  1. Exercise on the Wii at least 3 times for at least 30 min. each day. Done.  Yippee! I am back to exercising regularly and lost weight.
  2. Drink water. Try for at least 48 oz a day... goal is to drink 64. Done.
  3. Eat better and track my food intake. I really want to lose more weight. Done. I lost 2.5 lbs last week.
 Blog Goals
  1. Blog at least 3 days this week. Done.  I actually posted 8 times last week on 6 of the 7 days of the week, including GPM.
  2. Read and comment on all the posts by other Goal Planning Monday participants blogs and remember that I did it. http://zaazu.comMaybe I should start next week's post for Goal Planning Monday and record on that post when I am done this... maybe that would help. http://zaazu.com Done. I commented on the posts by Katrina @ Mama Manuscripts (host of GPM), Karen @ The Fruit of Her Hands, and Lori @ Keeping It Simple. They were the only participants last week, besides me of course. And, it really worked to put this plan in draft mode and enter their names as I commented on their blogs so that I could make sure to do all of them and make sure that no one else posted a link later in the week that I missed.
Personal/Other Goals
  1. Read and enjoy doing it. Done. I finished reading Back Home Again. On the way home from church on Sunday I was reading the book and I really got into it. I sat around at home and finished off the book. It was really good. I want to get the next one in the series and my daughter Jessica said that one of the girls told her there were 24 books in the series... Sarah and Rose... and all the Holman's, what have you done to me!! http://zaazu.com
  2. Have my day with Rachel this week. Partly Done. We still want to play a board game or something... but we did most of it.
  3. Get meal planning done for August. Partly Done. I planned this weeks meals... now I just have to plan the other 3 weeks.
I did fairly well last week considering the emotional day I had on Wed. and the starting of school. Things will go smoother this week... I hope.
My goals for this coming week:
    Spiritual Goals
    1. Keep up with reading through the Bible in a year.
    2. Keep reading Power of a Praying Wife and praying for my husband.
    3. Finish reading Prodigal God from last year at church. I lost my copy and then found it finally but never finished the book.
    Homeschool Goals
    1. Plan school for the rest of this week. I did not get this done over the weekend.Embarrassed Smileys
    2. Keep up with recording the boys school each day and making sure they do all 12 workboxes.
    3. Work on portfolios of school stuff from this past year.
    4. Continue planning History for this coming year.
    Health and Fitness Goals
    1. Exercise on the Wii at least 4 times for at least 30 min. each day.
    2. Drink water. Try for at least 48 oz a day... goal is to drink 64.
    3. Eat better and track my food intake. I really want to lose more weight.
     Blog Goals
    1. Blog at least 3 days this week.
    2. Since it is the first of August I need to post my yearly update that I post on the first of each month.
    3. Since my break from school is over I need to post how I did on my "summer" goals too.
    4. Read and comment on all the posts by other Goal Planning Monday participants blogs and remember that I did it.
    5. Read and comment on a bunch of Not Back to School Blog Hop posts... some from my friends and others I don't know. (link goes to my post for Not Back to School Blog Hop)
    TOS Homeschool Crew Goals
      1. Read Having a H.E.A.R.T for your Child and take some notes on paper or in a draft post for the review due in Sept.
      2. Get started planning the new Bible so I will be ready when the other student book comes in today or tomorrow.
      3. Play Flea Circus with my family again. Try and get my hubby and daughter Jessica to join us.
      Personal/Other Goals
      1. Read and enjoy doing it. Pick a new just for fun book.
      2. Have my day with Christopher this week.
      3. Get meal planning done for the rest of August.
      4. Go to the mall and spend a little of my birthday money on candles from Yankee Candle before my coupon expires. I need a candle for the new glass shade I bought on my anniversary. I though my hubby had purchased a candle for me for my birthday that would fit with the shade but it doesn't. I want one in the same scent he got me for my birthday, Honeydew Melon, and then I want to find another scent I like. Maybe one of the new ones.
