Goals Update Feb. 1

I resolved not to make resolutions but to make yearly goals and to update them the first of each month. So it is February 1st. I have been working on my goals for 31 days... how am I doing???

I spent a couple hours today making my Goals button, what do you think of it??

The positive steps I have made with my goals so far are highlighted in red, the goals that I still have to work on are highlighted in green.

Personal Goals:
Spiritual
  • Be more consistent with my personal devotions.
    • Our church started a year long challenge to read through the Bible and I joined in with them. I am on track. I did not read every day like I wanted to but at least I am not behind. When I got behind a day I made sure I caught up. We are using Daily Walk. The church ordered the books in bulk and so they only cost us $1.00 a month. I already paid for my year ahead of time. The Love, Pray, Wait, Trust bookmark I made was from an idea I had because of the devotional. I have been really enjoying my reading, but now I am getting to Leviticus and then Numbers... they are harder to get through than Genesis. I plan on listening to them online at BibleGateway.com and read it in my Bible at the same time... I am hoping that will help me get through.
Health and Fitness
  • Exercise more, more often and consistently. I would like to be much more fit by the end of 2011.
    • I have done much better this year. I have not done 3 days each week but I did do at least 2 and sometimes I did way more.
  • Eat better and loose weight.
    • Start by drinking more water and making sure to eat more fruit throughout the day and veggies at lunch.
    • Drinking water has increased but I have not gotten to 64 oz. like my goal is. I have gotten to 48 oz. which is more than I was drinking.
    • I have lost 11 lbs. I am encouraged by that and hubby keeps me supplied with Weight Watchers treats,WW bread and bagels, rice cakes, fruit and veggies so I can stick to my diet.
Educational
  • Read some books on homeschooling and other educational topics.
    • Finish Reading:
      • Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling - Still Working on it
      • Cat and Dog Theology by Sjogren and Robison (we used this for summer Sunday School at our church) Finished
      • Prodigal God by Timothy Keller. We are using this book and a video series for Growth Group. The whole church is doing this series right now, together. - can't find my book... hubby borrowed it and since then we can't find it. I don't know if he gave it back and I misplaced it or if he still has it.
  • Work on my own writing projects.
    • Work a little each week on the History Unit study projects I was working on or the E-book on Homeschool Organizing I was writing. Haven't done this at all yet. Need to get going on this in Feb.
Personal/Leisure
  • Spend one afternoon at least every other week doing scrapbooking.
    • First set aside time to clean off my table so I can scrapbook and then make time to actually scrapbook... do both before we start back to school on Thursday the 6th of January. Free Userbars
    • I cleaned off the table and scrapbooked one day. See my Tackle it Tuesday post to see details.
  • Read some books for pleasure.
    • I am currently reading Written on the Wind by Judith Pella, but I am not sure what chapter I am on. Done
    • I am now reading Pride and Prejudice for the first time. I am on chapter 20.
  • Continue blogging and remember it is supposed to be for fun and for the records for my family.
    • Write more consistently on my blog at least 3 posts a week.
      • I want to join back in on some memes that are favorites... see my Memes tab at the top. I did a couple memes last week. I also got back to doing my Blast From The Past this week so join up if you want. I posted it on Monday morning, but you can post any day this week and just come link up then.
      • I want to start back to doing the Blog Cruise questions with my fellow Crew Mates at TOS. First post for 2011 is due Jan. 10th. Done 1/18/11
Homeschool Goals:
  • Be more consistent on recording daily in our school log.
    • Doing better on this than I was... need to keep it up.
  • Be consistent with reviewing the boys daily assigned work and making sure they complete everything assigned to them and then put the stuff away in the folders/notebooks where it belongs.
    • I am doing much better on this, thus the boys have started to get more done and in a more timely manner. They know I will check. Ds 14 still tries to pull the wool over mom's eyes and hide things and is surprised when I catch him http://zaazu.com and surprised that I know that he was trying to hide things. I told him it is because I know the sin nature... since I have one too. http://zaazu.com
  • Complete the TOS Homeschool Crew Review Year.
    • Second year going well. Much less pressure and less reviews. Review are more spread out and thus more manageable.
Family/Relationship Goals:
  • Healthier Eating -more fruits and vegetables as a family... especially the boys. I have no idea if the boys are eating healthier. I suggest fruit and veggies but they don't take my suggestions. I need to figure out something to encourage them.
  • Exercise at home
    • Keep the boys working out on the Wii Fit or get them started on the Biggest Loser for the Wii... at least 30 min. a day Mon. - Friday. They did some this past week but not up to 30 minutes yet. They gave me some lame excuse about needing to build up to the 30 minutes.... I can do 30 min. and I am a lot older than they are.
  • More singing as a family
    • Work on new song for special music. We sing, next, at church on March 6th so we need to get started. Hubby plans to get started tonight or tomorrow, depending on how long it takes to get our Christmas decorations put away today and get things cleaned up.
    • I would like to find some other places for us to use our singing talents to serve the Lord.
  • Family evening read-aloud time more consistently. Needs work. We started reading Terrestria Chronicles book 1. We will begin having devotions this week hubby says... that means read-aloud also.
    • This is hubby's responsibility. I need to encourage him though. We have not been consistent in this area. I forget what book of the Bible we were reading and we are reading Terrestria Chronicles book 2 but should be further than that.
  • Get back to evening read aloud time with the boys.
    • I have not been doing it. I think we are still on Little House in the Big Woods. Make it a priority at least 3 nights a week. I still need to talk to Nathan about this... I already asked Christopher and he wants to do it.
  • Get back to meal planning because meals are more varied and we will have the ingredients shopped for ahead of time.
    • I did not plan January meals but I planned February meals. Now I need to get my kids to plan their meals.
  • Spend more time with my dear husband
    • Set up a date night soon.
    • Talk about a getaway sometime in Jan. or Feb. to make up for our catastrophe of a overnight when we went away for our Anniversary.
    • Hubby is planning something for Valentines Day but I don't know what. ??? I love surprises. Good surprises that is.
  • Spend time once a week with one of my kids, just mom and one of the kids having lunch in my bedroom alone and then doing whatever the child wants to do. Usually a combo of eating, talking and playing board games and/or computer games. Goal is one child a week, so they all get one afternoon with mom a month.
    • Start with my youngest and schedule it on the calendar so I can keep track of who is next for their turn. We can add time on the Wii together now. Scheduled time with youngest son this Friday. Need to schedule other kids for the next 3 weeks.
So, that is my update. Here is the link to my original post for my Goals 2011 in case you are interested. Did you make goals for this year? How are you doing on your goals?
