Today I am thankful for the flexibility of homeschooling.
My husband has an appointment with a specialist as a follow up to the E.R. visit he had on Oct. 28.
I am glad that I was able to just give the boys their assignments and know that I could check their work later when I come home. Most days I sit with the boys and do at least some subjects with them, but it is great to know that homeschooling is flexible enough to change things up when I have other responsibilities.
I also love that home projects, like painting the living room, can count for our class Home and Life Management for High School, trips to see the fountain shows a Longwood Gardens can count for Fine Arts, trips to homeschool conferences, like CHAP, can count for Educational Foundations (our High School class on how to homeschool); and many more. I love that we can schedule our days so that when I am stressed we can take a day off, when the kids or I don't sleep well we can adjust our start time, when we have an emergency we can take off of school and not have to really make things up... just start back when we recover. We have to have 180 days for our school year but we have 365 days in which to accomplish that.
Hey, the weather has been nice and before winter sets in I think we need a day at Winterthur and or a day at Longwood Gardens! Yeah, for flexible homeschooling. We don't have to be constrained with the state's time schedule, we can take breaks when we need to, and we can count all learning as part of our classes.
Homeschooling is not all easy, but there are lots of great things about homeschooling.
