Yearly Goals Update ~ April

This is my update. I want to stay accountable for achieving my 2011 goals. I want to do better than last year. I want to remind myself what my goals are and keep working toward them.

The positive steps I have made with my goals this month are highlighted in red, the goals that I still have to work on are highlighted in green.

Personal Goals:
Spiritual
  • Be more consistent with my personal devotions.
    • Our church started a year long challenge to read through the Bible. I am right where I am supposed to be. Today I read I Kings chapters 5-8. We are using Daily Walk from Walk Thru the Bible.
Health and Fitness
  • Exercise more, more often and consistently. I would like to be much more fit by the end of 2011.
    • I have been doing at least 4 days a week, with at least one day 45 minutes of exercise and one day an hour. Most weeks I am doing 5 days of exercise, some weeks I get in 6 days.
  • Eat better and loose weight.
    • Drinking water has increased. Some days I get in the 64 oz. and most days at least 48. If I want to get in the 64 I have to start before breakfast.
    • I have been eating more fruit and veggies and I have begun to track my eating and Weight Watchers points.
    • I lost about 5 1/2 lbs total in the month of March because I had 2 weeks where I gained, then I lost that amount and more. I ended the month loosing 2. 9 lbs on the 25th and loosing 2.6 lbs when I signed in yesterday.
Educational
  • Read some books on homeschooling and other educational topics.
    • Finish Reading:
      • Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling - Have not made much progress on this book, I have been concentrating on Age of Opportunity.
      • I am reading Age of Opportunity: A Biblical Guide to Parenting Teens by Paul David Tripp  Progressing in my reading. I am on chapter 11 out of 13. I should finish in the next week or so.
      • I am also reading Promises, Promises. It is written by a number of wives of prominent spiritual leaders. You can see the book in my Shelfari list on the left. I could not find the book on Amazon. Have not made much progress on this book, I have been concentrating on Age of Opportunity.
  • Work on my own writing projects.
    • Work a little each week on the History Unit study projects I was working on or the E-book on Homeschool Organizing I was writing. Still Working on it. I have other things that have taken priority in March. I plan to keep working on these but it may have to wait until May. I am working on my need/want list for school for next year before we go to a homeschool convention in May.
Personal/Leisure
  • Spend one afternoon at least every other week doing scrapbooking.
    • Stuff is piling up on my scrapbooking table showing me that I have not made time to do this. I want to and will try and make time in April.
  • Read some books for pleasure.
  • Continue blogging and remember it is supposed to be for fun and for the records for my family.
    • Write more consistently on my blog at least 3 posts a week.
      • I want to join back in on some memes that are favorites... see my Memes tab at the top. I am back to doing my Blast From The Past, so join up if you want. I moved it to Friday because both mom's who were joining me were doing it on the weekend. I have one mom joining each week and another mom some weeks. Please join us.
      • I want to start back to doing the Blog Cruise questions with my fellow Crew Mates at TOS. I don't think I did any of these in March but plan to do a couple in May. I may also tackle a couple of the topics from March in April just because I want to and I think they are important topics.
      • I posted 28 posts in March which is almost one a day.
      • I joined Mrs. Whites The Christian Home  blog carnival once but since then I keep forgetting to do it. I need to put it on my goal list.
Homeschool Goals:
  • Be more consistent on recording daily in our school log.
    • I have been lax on this the past week or so. I need to do better.
  • Be consistent with reviewing the boys daily assigned work and making sure they complete everything assigned to them and then put the stuff away in the folders/notebooks where it belongs.
    • I have been lax on this the past week or so. I need to do better.
  • Complete the TOS Homeschool Crew Review Year.
    • Second year going well. Much less pressure and less reviews. Review are more spread out and thus more manageable. I have one review I posted this past week, on the 1st of April. I only have one more due for now on May 4th.
Family/Relationship Goals:
  • Healthier Eating -more fruits and vegetables as a family... especially the boys. The boys are doing a little better on this. I keep encouraging them to make healthier choices.
  • Exercise at home
    • Keep the boys working out on the Wii Fit or get them started on the Biggest Loser for the Wii... at least 30 min. a day Mon. - Friday. They are still not as consistent as I am but Nathan lost some weight. I have been keeping track of their
  • More singing as a family
    • Work on new song for special music. We did not get to sing on the date we were scheduled but switched and sang on the 27th. Rachel's voice was still not back to normal so Court switched to Lead/Melody, soprano but an octave lower. Rachel and Jessica sang alto. Christopher and I sang tenor and Nathan did Bass by himself. We sang one of my favorites, "Wonderful Grace of Jesus."
  • Family evening read-aloud time more consistently. I am taking this off my goal list. It is not fair since it is not in my control to make this happen.
  • Get back to evening read aloud time with the boys.
    • I have not been doing it. I think we are still on Little House in the Big Woods. Make it a priority at least 3 nights a week. We read 2 nights last month... that was good but need to to more
  • Get back to meal planning because meals are more varied and we will have the ingredients shopped for ahead of time.
    • I planned March meals I need to plan April meals.
  • Spend more time with my dear husband
    • Spent the day together yesterday running errands. We need to do more though. I don't feel close to him these days. I am sure that is both of our faults.
  • Spend time once a week with one of my kids, just mom and one of the kids having lunch in my bedroom alone and then doing whatever the child wants to do. Usually a combo of eating, talking and playing board games and/or computer games. Goal is one child a week, so they all get one afternoon with mom a month.
    • Start with my youngest and schedule it on the calendar so I can keep track of who is next for their turn. We can add time on the Wii together now. Did all the kids last month, now it is Christopher's turn again.
So, that is my update. I have 15 things in red and 9 in green and 1 in yellow that I am removing from my goals. Some items have red and green portions. I have more positives than negatives so that is good. I still have a lot of work to do.

Did you make goals for this year? How are you doing on your goals? Keep track of your goals and how you are doing will help you achieve much this year. Doing the weekly goals meme on Mondays helps too.

  1. What a neat idea to post your goals, then follow up with an update! That ought to help you in reaching your goals, just knowing that you will be posting updates periodically.
