Think Back Thursday ~ Rock

Today Aug. 23 the theme is
Rock

The first 4 August posts are part of a series... we did Water and Clouds a while back. Then we did Earth/Dirt, Fire, last week Wind Air and now the Rock theme finishes the series.

I have a lot of photos to share this week. I hope you enjoy them. I enjoyed looking back!

First I have our science co-op from when my kids were younger.
This is September 1995.
Rachel was 9, Jessica was 6, Nathan was 1.
We joined up with friends and did nature hikes, instruction and activities for science, I think we met once a month. This month we met up and took a hike at a local park then went back to a friends house and I led some activities with rocks. I took Geology for 4 years in High School and had it as a minor in college. I love rocks!! I have quite a collection.

this is a close up cropped from the picture above

Part of the group.

 Jessica and a friend.

I don't remember what this was supposed to demonstrate and I don't know if it had to do with rocks or not, but it was the same day, so I am including these photos anyway.

 Nathan
We like to try and include the little guys when we can. They like to feel a part of the action.

The next set of photos is from Mammoth Cave in Kentucky. We were on a vacation with my Mom, visiting my brother. It was November 1994. Nathan was only a few months old and Rachel was 8 and Jessica was 5.

Rachel purple coat, Jessica Pink coat.

That's me in the yellow and grey coat carrying my son Nathan in one of those sling baby carriers (second from the right. My brother and his son Matt are to my left. My brother is in the light blue coat with the glasses on and his son Matt in the blue coat in front of him looking down at the rock.

This is the pulpit rock. A preacher actually preached from here "in the olden days."

Coming out of the cave, love the water falling there.

Christopher and Nathan on some rocks at the edge of the Brandywine River in Wilmington, DE North of our home. We should go back there, we haven't been there since this photo was taken on 05-10-2007

Wonder what is up with these rocks and the ruler

Future Themes:
Aug. 30 - Night
Aug. 30 can be any night shot, should be outside, inside at night is just an inside shot, not a night shot. I have a few good ones for this.

Sept. 6 - Benches
(with or without people on them)
Sept. 13 - Closeup
(of anything, I would especially like you to use any closeup features you have on your camera, get to know your camera)
Sept. 20 - Back to School
(this year, some other year, a bunch of years put together; of you, your kids, back to school supplies; whatever you want)
Sept. 27 - Relaxing/Peaceful
(whatever that means to you: a place, people, time of day, vacations, whatever...)

Here are the Rules for participating:
The purpose of Think Back Thursday is to link up a photo post about something from the past. You can reach back all the way to your childhood and bravely post pictures of you in your wild clothes and hair styles or post something from last year and tell us about it. I'm not picky. Hey, even yesterday was the past... LOL My posts will mostly be about events that happened prior to blogging, as a way to share those things with the world.
  • It can be about you, about your kids, about your parents, whomever. You can include video, I will not exclude video alone posts, but I prefer them along with photos, as this is a photo meme. I am doing a weekly theme now. That should help narrow it down from the myriad of photos we all have. For ideas check out the other posts in my label Think Back Thursday.
  • Link up below. Please use a permalink that sends readers directly to the correct post. If you are not sure what that is click the word permalink for an explanation.
  • Mention my blog and offer a link back. This is a requirement to take part and a kind gesture to me your hostess as well as your readers--they will know where to join in the fun, too. You can put the Think Back Thursday button on your site and in your post. You will find it on my right sidebar. Please use it to link to my site, to spread the word about my meme. Using the button will help others know how to find me and how to join. Tell others to click on the button in your post to find us here.
  • Leave me a comment. First so that you can let me know what you think of my pictures and secondly so that I will know a new post has been linked up and I can come visit your blog and comment on your photos.

  1. It looks like they had a blast at the co-op. My boys all love rocks and seem to collect them wherever we go. They were sad to leave several back in Maryland.

  2. I love the way that you dig through all of your old pictures to find something fun to share. I love looking back at when my kids were really little.

  3. Loved the cave pictures! I almost included some pictures of my daughter's rock collection but decided to stick with my theme of "standing on rocks". I am so glad that you host this!
