Today's challenge is:
Day 9 - A picture of your friends
Unfortunately this will again be a hard one for me. Who to call a friend. Here are the definitions from the Webster's 1828 Dictionary:
Friend: "One who is attached to another by affection; one who entertains for another sentiments of esteem, respect and affection, which lead him to desire his company, and to seek to promote his happiness and prosperity; opposed to foe or enemy. A friend loveth at all times. Prov. 17."If that is the definition of a friend then I think I can only put one picture here.
Friendship: "An attachment to a person, proceeding from intimate acquaintance, and a reciprocation of kind offices, or from a favorable opinion of the amiable and respectable qualities of his mind. Friendship differs from benevolence, which is good will to mankind in general.. True friendship is a noble and virtuous attachment, springing from a pure source, a respect for worth or amiable qualities."
My hubby, Court. This is my only friend that I can post a picture of. The only one that fits the definition above. I could add the Lord Jesus Christ, my very best friend, a friend that sticks closer than a brother, a friend that gave his life for me, but I don't have a picture of him to put up. I have other friends that I see at church, growth group, ladies Bible study, and local homeschool meetings but none of them call me during the week. I have online friends but that is different too. It is hard to get to know people only through the internet. None of my "friends" desire my company enough to make time to see me. If we run into each other then they will talk with me but they don't seek my company. My husband does. I am so thankful for him. I have my children too but that is different. They did not choose me, God chose to put them in our family. Court chose me. He likes to spend time with me. Maybe I don't have close friends because I don't have "amiable and respectable qualities." I don't know. All I know is Court is the only one I can talk to about anything. He is the only one who is always here for me, through good and bad.

Debbie,
ReplyDeleteI think it is wonderful that your spouse is also your best friend. I can completely relate to having some friends that you see only when out and not ones that come to find you. Online friends are great, but like you said it's hard to know them the same way as when you meet in real life. (Although I love to meet up with internet friends when the opportunity presents itself.)
I'm tagging you in a fun meme on my blog and hope you'll participate. Here's the post with details:
