Not Back-To-School Blog Hop - Day-in-the-Life Week

Not Back to School Blog Hop

This is the last week of the blog hop. For this week we are supposed to tell you about a typical day... If there is such a thing. Free Icons

In a typical day at some homes...not mine of course... ok... I'll admit it... even at mine...there will be disagreements, apologies, time apart, arguments, laughter, fights, fun, avoidance of work, getting along, diligence in work, time together, laziness, blame shifting, love, anger, self control, learning, servants hearts, selfishness, and more... Why??  Because we are together...a lot... we are human... we are flesh... we are spirit... we are at war within ourselves.. the flesh at war with our spirit... and the Spirit of God helps us... but we are not perfect yet... we have a long, long way to go.

We used to have a daily schedule by set by the 1/2 hour. It just did not work for us. I was never on schedule and it made me feel guilty. We now have an order to our day but not an hour by hour schedule. We like it that way. We use workboxes. The boys workboxes are mostly in the same order each day. They like it that way. Sometimes they do them in different order if they are waiting for us to do something together. This is the order of the boys workboxes.

First we rise and shower and eat. Sometimes actually the boys will do devotions and math and then eat... depending on the day. They do schoolwork I sit with my laptop doing blogging, checking things on the Internet (like my mail) and keep an eye on them. As they finish their boxes I look at the work and give it back if it is not satisfactory, grade their math, and record things in the school log.

Around 10:00 am we usually have a snack. We eat lunch around noon. We break at those times... not between any certain subjects. It just depends how early we get started. Most days we are done the workboxes by 1 or 2pm.

We do Bible in the evening as a family and practice singing. We sing for special music at church and sometimes minister at local nursing homes.

IEW is Institute for Excellence in Writing
Extra's is for our varied daily studies: Monday- Art Study (study an artist every 9 weeks, Tuesday - Music Study (study a composer every 9 weeks, Wednesday - Hymn Study (one hymn a month), Thursday - Poetry Study (a new poem each month), and Friday - the boys take turns choosing an educational game.
BLR is Building Life Relationships (studying courtship, family relationships and character study)
EF is Educational Foundations (studying how to homeschool)
HLM is Home and Life Management (study of home economics, home organization, home maintenance, car maintenance, construction, etc)
TOS/Fun is for review items that we are currently using for TOS and if we don't have one to put in that box then they can do any fun educational project the want.

If you want to know what curriculum we are using for school click on the pages tab above that says Resources for the 2010-2011 School Year .

I am also adding this to the blog hop below.

  2. Thanks for sharing your "schedule" with me...we used IEW and will use it again in the future...Andrew Pudewa is an engaging teacher my boys enjoyed while learning the dynamics of writing.

    Blessings in your year ~
