This DVD helps teach young children how to Count. Using pictures of objects of things from 1 to 10 it counts, using a young child's voice and numbers over the objects it counts. Each number gets counted more than one time, for example: "one butterfly, a butterfly is landing on the flower; one cow, a cow says (then you hear a cow sound); one polar bear, a polar bear walks on the ice, and more." Multiple times each number is counted. In the background lovely classical music is playing.
On the website there are screen shots and video clips. Click the picture of the DVD to see more details, see the video, and see pricing and ordering information. It sells for $19.99 and is targeted at preschool age children.
These DVD's (there are two DVD's in this set) cover all kinds of word problems. The instructor stands at a white board and does word problems and explains the procedures, step by step narrating along the way. The word problems are done for 15 different topics from Adding Whole Numbers, to Dividing Decimals, to Percents.
Video samples of the Word Problem DVD, screen shots and testimonials can be found at: http://www.mathtutordvd.com/public/department62.cfm This DVD sells for $26.99, and contains approximately 8 hours of teaching time.

Let me explain a little. We did a couple of the lessons of the Word Problem DVD. I did not make him view the Young Minds DVD but I watched it. My son is beyond this level for math. Neither of us liked the way the instructor taught the Word Problems. It was too repetitious for us. Maybe if you had a child that was really struggling with Word Problems it would be a help. The boys do not really struggle with Word Problems. I am not sure if we would like the more advanced subject DVD's or not. I did like the Young Minds - Numbers and Counting DVD, it is very cute and well done. However, I would not pay $19.99 for a DVD to teach my child to count. I would use real life objects that we see every day. Count the forks we put on the table for dinner, count the grapes we eat for snack, count the dolls or cars the child is playing with, things like that. That is how I taught my children to count.
You can get more information on the website about these and other products that Math Tutor sells. Also, check out other TOS Crew members reviews and see what others have to say: TOS Homeschool Crew Review Blog I am sure some of them have different opinions than we did.
***Math Tutor provided me with "Numbers and Counting" and the "Basic Math Word Problem Tutor" so that I could do my review. Though I received this product for free I have given an honest review of it here in this post.
