THEMEI know many of you either have a long list of books yourself or have one for the children for schooling. Please share your lists of reading material for this year. You can put them in any way you like - by genre, age, author, fiction, subject. You can also share your list from last year.
My List
I do not have a list of books I read last year. I do not have a list of books that I want the boys to read this year or next, we take those as them come. I do however had a detailed list of the books we plan to use for History so... here goes... I hope this is helpful to someone.
Our History Reading For This Year (This Section of Books are Read Aloud I read them to the boys)
This year we are studying the Dark Ages, Age of the Vikings and the Middle Ages. We started the dark ages last year and so were partway through our main texts. We started the school year in the year 622 AD in History. For our main text I use The Mystery of History by Linda Lacour Hobar. We are currently on Volume II - The Early Church and the Middle Ages we started on lesson 29. We also read Famous Men of the Middle Ages (started at chapter 8 this year) by Cynthia Shearer, and Story of the Middle Ages (A Revised and Expanded Edition of The Story of Old France and The Story of the English by H. A. Guerber) by Christine Miller (started at chapter XXXIV this year) . In all these books we were on Mohamed and the Birth of Islam.
There are some other books that we read each week, little by little. We read the chapters as they go along with the topics or time period we are doing for the 3 main texts we use.
The books are:
Streams of Civilization Volume 1 by Mary Stanton and Albert Hymast
Choosing Your Way Through the World's Medieval Past by Anne E. Schraff
100 Most Important Events in Christian History by Curtis, Lang and Petersen
Medieval Messenger by Fergus Fleming

Debbie,
ReplyDeleteWe're studying this same time period this year. The older boys are doing it in a co-op and some of the titles overlap.
I'm also reviewing Tapestry of Grace's unit on Middle Ages and have great book suggestions from there.
Just the other night I saw Mystery of History Vol. 2 and wish that was on my bookshelf as well.
I'll have to do a post soon about our Middle Ages studies and what we're using. It's definitely a great time period in history that engages boys and girls alike.
I really enjoyed reading over your book list for MOH II. I am wondering if you did MOH I and if you have a list of additional books similiar to this list?
ReplyDeleteThank you,
Dixie
