Think Back Thursday - Easter

The purpose of Think Back Thursday is to link up a photo post about something from the past. You can reach back all the way to your childhood and bravely post pictures of you in your wild clothes and hair styles or post something from last year and tell us about it. I'm not picky. Hey, even yesterday was the past... LOL I hope you will join us.

Today, March 28 - Easter

What do you think of when you think of Easter?
The ressurection of Christ, Easter services at church, new spring dresses, candy?
I found many Easter pictures so I will have more for next year.

What could be better than new spring dresses and hats
Easter 1988
I had been married almost 4 years and Rachel had just turned 2 years old.

This was taken on the porch of my mother's home before church.

The rest of these photos were taken outside my sister's home after church services. It was evidently a warm spring day by then.
 Adorable daughter in pink,
love the hat too!

Did you notice the dress I was wearing in the pictures above.
Now, 11 years later, that little girl in pink is wearing the dress I was wearing in the 1988 pictures.
My how time flies.

Goal Planning Monday ~ Week 113

Time to write some goals and strive to accomplish them this coming week??

Join us by clicking on the button above...
after you read my goals.

(our hostess is moving back to her other blog, the button is linked back to Mama Manuscripts)

This was a VERY good week. I am happy with the amount of things I got done. I made a lot of progress. My mother is going to be visiting this week. That will makes things a little different. Spending time with her will be a priority. She is 90 years old and we will have a lot to do to care for and entertain her this week.

I also have a Dentist appointment today and hope to get some problems taken care of before the week is over... but I may have to wait. The x-ray and exam is today and the dentist will let me know where we go from there. Hopefully the cavity can just be filled later this week and nothing worse will need to be done... really praying the tooth will not have to be pulled.

I am now marking my top priorities with a *

My goals for this coming week:
Spiritual Goals
  1. *Morning Devotions - including Bible reading, prayer, listening to music and reading a spiritual book. Read through Proverbs each month. Prayer will be a focus this year as that is my word for 2013. I am currently reading Desiring God: Meditations of a Christian Hedonist by John Piper. Done - Not every day but I did do it.
  2. Participate in the Joy Dare in 2013. Writing down 3 things each day that are gifts from God, things to be thankful for totaling more than 1000 gifts in 2013. Done
Homeschool Goals
  1. Keep up with planning and ordering materials for school. Done
  2. Be consistent with reviewing Christopher's daily work and logging it in. Done
  3. *Check Christopher's hours for his school subjects so I know how much he has done, how much he still needs to do in the next 65 days or so of school. This, besides my devotions and reading, is my TOP priority this week. Done - I made a LOT of progress here... I will definitely be done this early this week... maybe even later today.
Blog Goals
  1. Comment on the ladies blogs that link up to Goal Planning Monday. Not Done - sorry ladies. I hate it when I don't comment. Gotta do this earlier this week... Tomorrow, Wednesday at the latest.
  2. Post reminder and future themes for Think Back Thursday on Wed. Done
  3. Post Think Back Thursday. Done
  4. Comment on each person's post that links up for Think Back Thursday. Not Done - I will do this later today.
  5. Post a meme or 2 I like to participate in. Done
Personal/Other Goals
  1. Write my weekly goals down on paper, add some details I want for me. Done
  2. *Read, Read, Read - I really need to do better. Goodreads says I am more behind now. I hope to finish 2 books this week... and every week until I catch up.
    • I hope to finish Light and the Glory. Partly Done - I read half of what I had left to read. I hope to finish the book today.
    • I hope to finish The Memory Jar. Done - I finished this! Yeah!
For this week that is  10 Done, 1 Partly Done, and 2 Not Done.

Think Back Thursday ~ Field Trip/Vacation

The purpose of Think Back Thursday is to link up a photo post about something from the past. You can reach back all the way to your childhood and bravely post pictures of you in your wild clothes and hair styles or post something from last year and tell us about it. I'm not picky. Hey, even yesterday was the past... LOL My posts will mostly be about events that happened prior to blogging, as a way to share those things with the world.

    Today's Theme
    Field Trip/Vacation

One of the things I like about homeschooling is that most of our vacations have been field trips for school as well. We have never had money to travel very far. Many years our vacation was just day trips in our area, within a couple hours of our house. The few week long vacations we have had the money to take were also within driving distance, less than 6 hours away, and were field trips to historical places like Williamsburg and Gettysburg.

But most of our field trips were at local events or businesses and were set up as field trips. Some were when we were part of a co-op. The purpose of the co-op was for one field trip and one play date a month. Friendships grew in this early co-op, between the kids and between the mom's especially. It was such a relief to get the kids together once a month to just play at a gym (when it was cold) or at a park and have time for the mom's to sit and talk or roam around and talk while watching our little ones play together. It was very needful contact with other homeschooling mom's and kept me sane. It was great to have time to compare notes and share during those early days of uncertainty.

Today I am going to share a field trip that we participated in many times. Storybook Garden Party was an annual event held at a local museum, Hagley. These photos are from April 28, 1996. Rachel was 10yo, Jessica 7yo, and Nathan  almost 2yo. It is something my young kids enjoyed many times. Unfortunately they stopped having this party. Each year there was different activities and themes.

Wow! It is amazing to me how terrible some of these photos are, Comparing them to photos from my digital camera is so different. Oh well, I did the best I could with the camera we had at the time... way back in the 'dark ages'... LOL

    There were science demonstrations.

The kids always love stuff that bubbles and foams.

They got to meet "Miss Frizzle" of the Magic School Bus books and movies.
My kids love Magic School Bus.
Rachel in pink, Jessica in Blue.

Here is Rachel using a Van de Graaff Generator to make her hair stand on end.

There were a variety of interactive science displays and experiments.

An obstacle course to climb through.

Rachel always was a big helper with our little ones, here she is helping Nathan through the tubes.

     Music programs.

Even an opportunity to try to play an instrument after one of the performances.

A visit with the Easter Bunny.

     Dress up clothes

     and some fishing.

There were lots of fun activities for the kids and this was a day we all enjoyed... out in the sunshine and warm spring weather.... at least this year it was sunny and warm. It is a shame they do not do this anymore. Many kids are missing out on a lot of fun, exploration, and learning.

Now it's your turn, share a favorite field trip or vacation on your blog ... and link up below.
